Located near Killarney on a pristine swath of Georgian Bay shoreline is a most unique and private property, a place that offers a lifestyle unlike anything you may have ever imagined. It is called "Faraway" and it is far away...from noise, from pollution, from crowds, from everything except the beauty of its natural surroundings. Yet, in the midst of this unspoiled terrain, there is a handsomely designed home, a cosy four season getaway with every imaginable modern convenience from wine fridge to hot tub, from outdoor sound system to chef style gas range.

Sit on your front lawn and look east as the morning sunlight dances across a great sweep of Georgian Bay, a body of water once named 'the freshwater sea' because it so closely resembles an ocean. At your back are the La Cloche mountains, famous for their unusual white quartzite slopes that, from a distance, look snow-covered at any time of year. The landscape here is part of the Canadian Shield, a spine of rugged granite, and yet "Faraway" is set on sandy soil and has a civilized tameness that comes from its green lawns, thriving perennial and vegetable gardens, natural beach with warm shallows for wading, and, at your back door, a tranquil fish pond fed by gentle waterfalls. Walk to the large beach and breath deeply as you float in the clear blue bay because both air and water here are as clean and pure as morning dew.

Although located just north of the summer community of low-lying rock islands known as the 30,000 Islands "Faraway" is far removed and supremely private with 50 acres of lush forest and sugar maple bush, almost 3000 feet of water frontage, and a surrounding necklace of protected Crown Land. As the old saying goes about real estate - "they're not making it anymore". This rings particularly true in this undiscovered corner of Ontario where the government has claimed and protected the land and only rare pockets of private property even exist.

Unlike some areas with awe-inspiring scenery that is inaccessible, this landscape is very user-friendly. Over 25 miles of nature trails crisscross the property and lead to secret hideaways where moose can be spotted drinking from clear mountain streams, bald eagles wing between the tall hemlocks, and loons call out from the far shore of pristine land-locked lake. There are several lakes around the property including Badgley Lake which is 600 feet above sea level (and the house) and 30 feet deep. Your pontoon boat with a quiet electric motor is docked here for leisurely cruises along the shore.

Hike, mountain bike, or ride your ATV to the dramatic private lookout 600 feet above Covered Portage Cove. From this dazzling height you can watch the sunset and, on certain nights, the glorious spectacle of the Northern Lights. This well known anchorage fills with sailing yachts in summer but was first discovered in the late 1700s by French Canadian Voyageurs (also known as the Coureurs de Bois)who paddled their ten-man birchbark canoes all the way from Montreal to Lake Superior in order to trade fur with the Natives. They entered Georgian Bay at the mouth of the French River and ventured north into this deep bay with its portage at one end. Since those days the landscape has barely changed.

This region has long appealed to adventurers and luckily its story is one of wilderness protection. Not only is "Faraway" surrounded by government owned Crown Land, it is close to Killarney Provincial Park, known as the 'crown jewel' of Ontario's parkland. This majestic wilderness park can trace its existence to the influence of Canada's most famous artist group known as the Group of Seven. Several of them, including A.Y. Jackson, so loved to paint the area's windswept Jack Pine trees and unique turquois lakes that they convinced the government to keep its beauty preserved forever by making it a provincial park.
