Island Camp Baringo is a luxurious resort on an island in the middle of Lake Baringo, the only freshwater lake north of the hemisphere in Kenya’s Great Rift Valley. This island paradise is spread on an eroded volcanic plug surrounded by the tranquil lake giving an amazing 360-degree view of the landscape. You can watch the sunrise from the comfort of your bed as it rises from the Laikipia Plateau in the east. At sunset, you can sit poolside on the lake with a sundowner cocktail and watch it sink into the lake over the Tugen hills with spectacular colors.
There are 11 thatched roof, stone walled rooms with spectacular lake views and canvas fronts that can be opened to bring the outside in. The 4 superior rooms feature, a plunge pool and sunbeds on the large verandah. A special treat is freshly-brewed tea or coffee brought to your suite with fresh cookies before you make it to breakfast.
Facilities and Excursions at Island Camp Baringo
Even though you are at a remote island paradise and have the option of completely switching off from the wider world, the Camp does have internet and Wi-Fi. There is a dining room with views of the lake and two bars. The bar by the pool with its views of both sides of the lake is famous for its hospitality, with darts and board games available.
For the more sporty, there is kayaking, donutting for children. There are also trips to a neighboring Island where you can walk with giraffes and ostriches and other wildlife. After your active day you can enjoy the spa, a secluded tent by the lake, and relax with a massage.
From island hopping, bird watching, kayaking to hiking on and off the island, you may not have enough time to do everything which means Island Camp Baringo is an ideal holiday spot to return to. Any day excursion from the camp is exciting, including meeting the local II Chamus fishermen. The Lake is famous for its number of bird species and our boat guides are experts at finding and identifying birds as well as other wildlife in the lake which include hippos and crocodiles.
Island Camp is less than a 2 hour drive to Lake Bogoria with its millions of lesser and greater flamingos, one of the most incredible spectacles in Kenya along with the Wildebeest migration.
