Hog Island (formally known as Belle Island) is 224 acres of complete privacy. It is currently the largest private island for sale in the state of Florida. The island’s connection to mainland power, phones and internet via submarine cable make it a truly unique oasis. A perfect fresh water hideaway that is located on Florida’s second largest lake; Lake George, a 46,000 acre lake and part of the St. John’s River. Hog Island is bordered by the Ocala National Forest and Georgetown. While the refuge is isolated, it is conveniently close to Orlando, Ocala, Daytona, St. Augustine and Jacksonville. This makes Hog Island the perfect launching point for a day at Disney World, Universal Studios, professional sporting events or one of the neighboring beaches.
The far-reaching island is an ideal safe haven and only grants access to it’s guests via boat, helicopter or seaplane making it the perfect getaway. Private family vacations or remote corporate retreats are ideal scenarios for the exclusive enclave, as it features three homes with eight bedrooms. The main dock provides mooring for up to nine boats and enables access to the nerve center of the island. This section of the island houses two custom built cypress log cabins; Turtle Cabin and Gator Cabin. Both of the three bedroom, two bath log cabins have their own unique features and magnificent views of the island and lake. A barn is located between the two log cabins, which sits in front of a charming covered bridge and pond that stores all of the equipment needed to maintain Hog Island. Other features here include a helicopter pad, another bridge and a playground with playhouse.
Swamp Cottage is the third home and is located on the southeast end of Hog Island. The two bedroom, two bath cottage can be reached by water or by traversing over a mile of natural habitat via foot or aboard one of the two, all-terrain vehicles included in the sale of the island. The cottage has an elevated walkway that features landscape lighting leading out to the two slip boat dock, with space for additional mooring. The dock and wrap around, screen enclosed porch is a great place to watch amazing sunrises. Every effort has been made to ensure that this marvelous cottage is self-sufficient including, it’s own water system.
Hog Island includes two mainland properties:
The first mainland property can be used as a reception center. The Oldest Existing One Room School House in the county (1899), welcomes visitors to Hog Island. The island provides many adventures for it’s inhabitants like, hiking, fishing, hunting and boating. Traversing the waterways can lead to the perfect fishing spot or one of many nearby natural springs. This venerable structure radiates a time in history that has been long been forgotten and is furnished with memorabilia that suggests the many adventures to come on Hog Island.
The second mainland property included in the sale of Hog Island is also one of it’s most prized features; The Island Keeper’s Residence has three bedrooms. The metal staging barn and private, heavy duty dock are quintessential in shuttling visitors to and from Hog Island. A boat and build-able waterfront lot make this property the perfect approach to Hog Island via water.
